Synthetic Oil vs Conventional

Curious about the engineering put into your Mercedes-Benz vehicle? One area you’re likely aware of is your engine’s oil, as it’s an area that plays a prominent role in the premium performance you’ll enjoy when behind the wheel.

Mercedes-Benz models up the ante on performance here, too, running on synthetic oil rather than traditional motor oil. How does this distinction promote premium performance around Manchester, Nashua, and Bedford, NH? Find out with the help of our team here at Mercedes-Benz of Manchester as we explore the differences of synthetic oil vs. conventional oil.

What Does Motor Oil Do?

Before we dive into the differences of these types of oil, it’s first important to cover why oil is ultimately so important and what it does. So, that’s where we’ll start.

As previously covered, oil is critical to the overall health of your Mercedes-Benz. When it’s placed into your vehicle, it will go to work within the powertrain. Here, it will work to keep your vehicle’s engine clean. As it cycles, picking up dirt and debris that’s not supposed to be there, it will also lubricate different mechanical parts, allowing them to interact with each other properly.

Without oil and its ability to serve these two roles, your Mercedes-Benz would not be able to run at all. So, again, it’s quite important.

Difference Between Synthetic Oil and Conventional

So, how are synthetic oil and conventional oil different? Well, on the surface, they serve the same purpose. As you dig deeper, though, you’ll find a difference in their molecular structure.

Starting with conventional oil, it’s just crude oil that has been pulled out of the ground, refined, and repurposed for vehicle use. Synthetic oil, though, is manmade. Rather, it’s a manufactured product that usually combines modified petroleum components and other materials.

As they’re different chemically speaking, they’re also different from a performance standpoint. In fact, you’ll find synthetic oil is much better overall. It’s engineered to remain fluid at low temperatures and is able to remain stable at higher temperatures, allowing it to last much longer as it works within your vehicle’s powertrain.
